The GTE series is an extraordinary collection of 11 bespoke Lightweight E Types that embody one of the world’s rarest and most beautiful cars yet reengineered with modern innovations and upgrades.
The GTE
Heritage Reimagined
Each GTE is meticulously handcrafted from a donor car, preserving the original steel tub and paying homage to Jaguar’s iconic Lightweight E Types from the 1960s.
Innovative Upgrades
Jenvey throttle body fuel injection, Emtron ECU, speed-sensitive electric power steering, electric air conditioning.
Performance
A tried and tested 3.8 or 4.2 litre engine combination generating a thunderous 360hp
Precision Engineering
Quaife torque biasing differential, bespoke upgraded alloy brake calipers, vented rotors, and fully height-adjustable suspension for ultimate control and handling
Exclusive Customisation
Tailored to individual preferences, each GTE allows the buyer to choose paint colors, interior themes, wheel options, and personal touches
Body
Each car is built from a donor. The outer skins and hanging panels are removed and then remade in incredible detail and accuracy by hand, in alloy.
All roadsters are fitted with a removable alloy hardtop. As opposed to the factory lightweights which were constructed totally from aluminium, we restore the original steel tub from the donor.
At Concours Sportscar Restoration, we have built both alloy tub and steel tub Lightweights, but the steel tub suits the overall concept better as it is much stiffer (an all alloy car is fine with a cage, but these are built as road cars).
The steel tub provides much better road noise absorption, cuts down heat dissipation through the firewall and floors and most importantly, by retaining the original tub of the donor car, the vehicle’s structure is original and therefore always remains the original car.
GTE’s are not manufactured replicas, rather an upgraded original car and as such, can be legally road registered anywhere as the car that it was from new.
Engine
Engine
The legendary Jaguar E Type twin cam 6 cylinder engine is retained and subject to improvements developed over decades of experience to accentuate the torquey nature of the engine and to improve overall efficiency and driveability.
Peak horsepower is in the 340 – 360 range depending on the capacity, thanks mainly to reengineered conrods, pistons and camshafts. CNC porting to the cylinder head, larger inlet valves and the redesigned exhaust system all play their part, but it is the integration of Jenvey electronic throttle body fuel injection that revolutionises the robust E Type engine.
The result is a tried and proven combination that represents a whopping 75% increase in power but more importantly, an engine that idles smoothly, starts on the button and provides tremendous torque delivery.
Mechanics
The old Moss box makes way for a brand new alloy 5 speed transmission developed exclusively for the Jaguar E Type using Cosworth MT75 gears. Gear ratios are identical to a factory E Type close ratio gearbox with the addition of an overdrive 5th gear.
The original E Type limited slip differential worked well but a new Quaife torque biassing differential centre provides superior power down to the rear wheels and simply works infinitely better.
Brakes are E Type specific upgraded alloy brake callipers and vented rotors with floor mounted pedal box, adjustable bias and dual booster brake system.
The E Type already had fully independent suspension but we take it to another level with fully height adjustable suspension, externally adjustable shock absorbers, uprated swaybars, adjustable camber/castor shaft on the front, poly bushes throughout and uprated tension bars.
The steering on an E Type can be rather heavy, especially when wider front tyres are used. This is one of the major improvements that we make by re-engineering the steering with a GPS sensitive electric power assisted steering unit that mounts under the dashboard. Giving one finger on the steering wheel ease at parking speeds yet as speed increases, the assistance reduces away to none giving vastly improved straight line stability and corner turn in grip. A brand new quick ratio steering rack which is solidly mounted to the frame completes the driving experience.
Interior
Interior
The cabin of a 1960’s Lightweight E Type was sparse as its purpose was to race, not to provide any real level of comfort or refinement. This is an area that we provide scope for the purchaser to choose not only the colour, but the level of trimming.
We use new ADR compliant alloy bucket seats which are trimmed in genuine Connolly leather with alcantara backing. The door trims are also leather in the style of the original Lightweight E Type.
But the hero of the cabin space is the fully integrated electric air conditioning, which provides instant cooling to the cabin and proper demisting of the windscreen. The original E Type heater system is retained although it features an upgraded fan and fan motor to provide much improved cabin heating.
Instrumentation is by brand new electronic versions of the original Smiths style gauges.
The Team Behind GTE
At the helm of the GTE Series stands Gavin King.
Gavin has been restoring and building classic cars for 30 years with his business Concours Sportscar Restoration. Gavin and his team have literally restored 100’s of cars and built C Types, Low Drag Coupes and Lightweight E Types during that time. With a heritage deeply rooted in automotive craftsmanship, Gavin’s expertise and passion infuse every GTE with unparalleled excellence.
The stunning aluminium bodywork is handmade by a world leader in body craftsmanship, Mark Nugent. Mark was an apprentice at Concours Sportscar Restoration back in the late 1990’s and since then has gone on to produce aluminium bodywork that is acclaimed worldwide. The opportunity for Gavin and Mark to team up on the GTE project represented an irresistible opportunity to produce truly world class automobiles together.
